A seasonal approach to food is both natural and beneficial for your digestive health.

Summer Guide

Summer is a time of being in full bloom, and sometimes, that can take a toll. Burning skin, constant sweating, dehydration, and midday fatigue are common signs of excess heat in the body. If you naturally lean toward fiery mind-body qualities, summer may feel especially intense.

Perhaps surprisingly, many classic summer foods can actually increase internal heat and acidity. Think spicy dishes, tomatoes and ketchup, pickles, mustard, vinegar, meat, yeasted breads, deep-fried foods, and alcohol—they often leave us feeling overheated and imbalanced.

To counteract the external heat and regulate your metabolism, it helps to favor seasonal foods that are naturally cooling, hydrating, light, and calming. Choose meals with a mix of cooked and raw ingredients, and a liquid or juicy consistency. Eating this way not only supports your body’s ability to release excess moisture from spring, but also offers the steady hydration and carbohydrates your body craves for summer’s high-energy demands.
