This recipe is from What to Eat for How You Feel: The New Ayurvedic Kitchen, by Divya Alter (Rizzoli, 2017).
My SV Ayurveda teacher, Vaidya R. K. Mishra, has spoken so much about the importance of this beverage that I had to give you the recipe. Most of us city dwellers tend to become dehydrated because we live in very dry environments, surrounded by electric devices, heaters, the sun, the cold, and the wind, or sometimes we just don’t drink enough alkaline spring water. I call this drink the “Ayurvedic Gatorade”—next to fresh coconut water, it is one of the best electrolyte beverages to quench your thirst down to the cellular level. Toasted cumin and nutmeg support absorption and soma salt adds minerals—do not omit these. This drink tastes perfect when all six tastes meddle on your palate without a single taste standing out. Although I’ve placed this recipe in the cooling recipes chapter, this drink is balancing for everyone, in every season. Sip it when working out or during your detox days before you feel thirsty to prevent dehydration.
